4-2-3-1: Liverpool's Strongest Possible XI vs Sevilla – Coutinho Starts

Liverpool ripped Hoffenheim apart in the play off round of the Champions League to qualify for the group stages.
The Reds will collide against Sevilla in the opening group game. Not to forget, the Spanish side defeated the Merseysiders in the Europa League final two years ago.
As far as Klopp’s team news is concerned, star playmaker Philippe Coutinho should finally return to the Liverpool first team after taking part in the pre-season fixtures.

To include the Brazilian in the starting XI, the German manager should make a slight change in his usual 4-3-3 formation. Klopp should use a 4-2-3-1 formation and Coutinho must play in the attacking third in the No.10 role behind compatriot Firmino. Mane and Salah will likely start on the wings again.
Karius should return in place of Mignolet in the goal. As far as the defense is concerned, the likes of Gomez, Lovren and Robertson should return to the starting XI as well.

Proposed team selection is good with just one exception – Karius. Introduction at CL could destroy him. I believe he should be tested first through the rigours of the League Cup.

  2. IAN BORROWS says:

Well after an reasonable first few minutes, an unbelievably weak defensive effort by Lovren handed an opportunity on a plate to Sevilla which they took after lead with just over 5 minutes gone. What a wonderful start!

  3. IAN BORROWS says:

Well it certainly has been a mixed bag this first half. After a rather fortunate goal by Salah, Firmino misses a penalty. The ball pretty much screwed off his foot the moment he hit it and hit the post. Moreno was unlucky not to get onto the score sheet against his old team right before the half. Still Liverpool lead 2-1 at the half.

Poor, poor game management. Conceded a second goal to tie it up Finally decided to bring on a substitute at the 75th minute mark Coutinho being given a 15 minute run out. Little disappointed that Klopp waited so long to bring on a substitute. 83 minutes stiurridge subbed on. Hopefully he can make an impact with the little time left!
