Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to sign a new midfielder this summer and a few quality players are in the lime light.
Few days back, we covered a report claiming that Portuguese international and Sporting CP star Adrien Silva is interested in joining the North Londoners (via JN).
Now, according to Daily Star, Spurs have opened talks to hire the services of Croatian international and Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who is now Mauricio Pochettino’s priority target for the midfield.
The 23-year-old former Inter Milan star has the ability to play anywhere in the midfield. However, in the presence of stars like Kroos, Modric and Casemiro, he has normally warmed the bench under the management of Zidane and would surely want that to change next season.
As per the provided Star link, Spurs believe that regular game time will convince Kovacic to join them this summer.
In the last campaign, he only started 19 times in the Spanish league, scored 1 goal and provided 3 assists.
Sport have also covered a report via Daily Star and claimed that Spurs will make an offer to sign the versatile midfielder. However, the Spanish source have also added that Tottenham’s initial offer for Mateo would be around 25 million euros and Madrid will likely reject it because they paid 30 million euros to secure his signature from the Nerazzuri.
Kovacic’s current deal with the Los Blancos will expire in 2021 and he earns (Star) £100,000-a-week ($129,000-a-week). Not to forget, even Mourinho wants him at Manchester United (via Diario Madridsta).
