Arsenal have been interested in signing French international and Lyon star Alexandre Lacazette for a long time but it seems that they will end up losing the battle.
The Les Bleus striker has been one of the best goalscorers in the French league over the years and he has been in fantastic form this season as well.
In 40 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, Alexandre has so far netted no fewer than 31 goals in the current campaign. He is expected to leave the club this summer and has claimed that he will only move to a side which will take part in the next season’s Champions League (Telegraph).
“[The team I join] will have to be in the Champions League and play good football – passing the ball, not just hitting it from box to box. Not kick and rush. That would not work for me.”
As it stands, Arsenal are 6th in the table, they have a game in hand and are 6 points behind fourth placed Man City. Not to forget, this weekend, the Gunners have to face Man United, who have not lost a league game since last October.
Last month, we covered a report (via Mirror via RMC) claiming that the Reds are ready to offer big money to sign the 25-year-old center forward, who has a release clause of 60 million pounds ($77million) in his contract (via Mirror).
The Angield club are already ahead of Arsenal in the PL and Lacazette’s latest comments about playing in the Champions League have clearly put Liverpool ahead of their PL rivals in the race to sign him.
Liverpool strengthened their 3rd place in the table on Monday night by beating Watford and are firm favorites to earn Champions League qualification. Moreover, the Merseysiders do fit his criteria of playing good, passing football game as well.
Jurgen Klopp badly needs a top quality No. 9 in his team and someone like Alexandre would be a fantastic addition. In your opinion, should Liverpool splash the cash to sign him?
