Shocking – Liverpool Could Get Points Deducted

Jurgen Klopp DortmundLiverpool are currently third in the Premier League, level on points with Tottenham Hotspur and seven points behind league leaders Chelsea.
The Reds have what it takes to catch the Blues and win the league title this season but they may suffer a major setback in the form of points deduction if they opt to play Joel Matip.
The Merseysiders failed to get any clear reply from FIFA on whether they should play the former Schalke defender or not and now they are actually ready to play the Cameroonian defender in the upcoming FA Cup replay against Plymouth (Liverpool Echo).
The 25-year-old star announced his retirement from international football a year ago but he was selected by the national side for the African Cup of Nations. When he rejected to go for the competition, Cameroon’s boss reached out to FIFA so that the player will not be able to feature for the Reds until the AFCON is completed (Mirror)
Matip has been a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad this season. He has featured in 12 league games for the Reds and scored one goal.
As per the provided Mirror link, Klopp will try one more time to get a clear answer from FIFA before selecting the team against Plymouth but Liverpool may make a decision and then see what happens next. The report says that Matip could be suspended, the Reds might be fined and could even get points deducted.

Please explain how FIFA can do anything if, as your article states, Matip has retired from International football

    • Rack says:

Klopp said the same thing but the confusion was created when Cameroon selected him even when he is retired and then the case was forwarded to fifa for clarification…but Fifa have not given any clear reply. They just continue to point to their regulations but that doesnt tell nything about the fact that he has retired.
Never know what happens so better not play him

  2. Fasil Haile says:

Why he is not cleared to play as he suspended himself from international games even for his country too?And why the Cameroonian Football Federation hasn’t done any legal inquiries till now?He was even not once trained with them since his decision from the international games.
