Wenger to Seal "Solid All-Round" $34million Signing for Arsenal – Spurs Blow

Arsenal FCArch rivals Tottenham and Arsenal are looking to reinforce their strike-force this summer and are interested in a certain Algerian international.
According to reports (The Sun via O Jogo), Arsenal are looking to secure the services of highly rated Sporting CP striker Islam Slimani.
Tottenham badly need to strengthen their strike-force after failing to lure an out and out forward in the last two transfer windows under the management of Pochettino. Reports (InsideFutbol) suggest that Spurs are also linked with the 27-year-old African star.
However, as per the provided Sun link, with Vardy looking to reject Arsenal, Wenger will activate the release clause of $34 million in Slimani’s contract to hire his services in the summer transfer window.
Last season, Slimani was in brilliant form for the Primeira Liga side. He scored 27 goals and provided 6 assists in 33 league appearances for Jorge Jesus’ team.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho heavily praised the Algerian forward during the 2014 World Cup and claimed that he is a “solid all-round” star (HITC).
In your opinion, should Arsenal sign Slimani or Vardy?

    Neither.
We need a significant upgrade on Giroud; neither of these provide that. They just offer something different.
Much better is needed if Arsenal are to seriously challenge.

Sounds more like marketing speel. I can’t see Spurs paying that much for a player not proven in the PL that would play second fiddle to Kane and Arsenal can and should be chasing better than they have. I suspect Arsenal need decent trainers more than anything. Horrific injury tolls appear to be a regular theme a Woolwich. If it wasn’t for the injuries….. well done to The Foxes.

Same here, typical stuff in my opinion. Like Arsenal, Spurs is a well run club and rarely messes up on transfers( apart from Bentley and Soldado maybe). Hee Hee!!!

  3. Vincent says:

don’t sell giroud now, keep him with welbeck.
arsenal must sign one more forward..and sell unwanted old defenders
means sell kosileny and mertasakar for money and buy Ricardo Rodriguez. and stones.
kos around 10 million, mertasakar around 20 million.
give Paulista first team fully. make chamber’s play.
    sell oldies.
sell wilshere for 25 million to Leicester and swap
    vardy from Leicester.
say them to pay 25 million. and give vardy for 20 million.
5 million extra profit. we will get a in form striker to partner giroud and welbeck.
we have a lot of midfielders ozil and Sanchez.
    no use of wilshere.
sign a midfielder too. try to sign Ki Sung-yueng as wilshere replacement.
next season arsenal will take title if you do this <3

Sell Koscielny? Are you mad? He’s been the clubs most consistent defender for years and is solid. Mertersaker should go, yes. He’s too slow and gets caught out by younger, faster players all the time. No place for Wilshere? Again, are you mad? When fit, Wilshere is an extremely important player for Arsenal. His forward runs are impeccable and he’s almost unplayable. The only thing is due to his style of play, he is prone to injury.
Koscielny £10 mill and Mertersaker £20 mill? Other way round mate. Koscielny could walk into any team in Europe and be on the team sheet straight away.
Chambers and Gabriel are not good enough yet to be in the first team every game. They are developing nicely which is Wengers plan.
It made me laugh when you said “do all this and Arsenal will win the league”. If only it was that simple sunshine.

  4. Brianccc says:

Sell Walcott. Sell Mertesacker. Bring in a defender world class defender for 30 Mil. Kente from Leicester whatever the cost. And one striker for 70 Mil, we can afford it. Then we have a greater chance not only winning the league but the champions league. This team will beat any of Wenger’s selection in the transfer market because you can’t buy cheap to win anything.

    • steve H says:

Sell Walcott and Mertersaker I do agree with. Walcott has lost his way and is now ineffective in either position he plays. Mertersaker is too slow and gets caught out constantly by younger, quicker players. We might get £20-25 mill for Walcott, if we’re lucky and less than £10 mill for GrandPER Mertersaker.
In your post, you’ve put “buy a defender for £30 million, Buy Kante from Leceister at any cost and buy a striker for “£70” . I add this up to well over £100 million which is fantasy stuff. Only Man City or at a stretch Chelsea or Man UTD could afford such frivolous spending. Remember that to have such expensive players, you have to pay them wages that fit their value. We DO NOT have the financial resources to spend so much money on players and wages no matter what people say. Arsenal is a well run club that has never spent beyond its means and never will be. Look how long it took after the cost of the new stadium for Wenger to be able to buy big name players like Ozil and Sanchez and Xhaka. Wenger will spend money but not on the scale of other English clubs like Man City. Even look at Real Madrid or Barcelona, they don’t spend big money any more because they simply can’t afford to.

  5. steve H says:

Neither of these are good enough for Arsenal really. Vardy has had ONE decent season at a club that fluked the title which will NEVER happen again for Leceister. Vardy, Mahrez and Kante stood out in a team of basically Championship players, that’s all. I’ve only seen a little bit of Slimani and he’s fairly good but then again, Sporting CP aren’t that great either. So on paper, Vardy and Slimani stand out and look good.
Now look at someone like Cavani, he is actually class and has played at the top level of club and international football. If Wenger was prepared to offer over £6 million a year in wages to Vardy, I’m sure he can do the same for Cavani. If Wenger offered £24 million to Leceister for Vardy, it’s not that much more to prise Cavani from PSG.

  6. Bazza says:

Spurs pay over $30M for a 27 year old? Are you nuts!
The complete opposite of Spurs current philosophy.

    • steve H says:

As a Gooner, I naturally hate Spurs, but like Arsenal, it’s a well-run club and refuses to alter it’s wage structure to spend stupid money on players and pay them astronomical wages (apart from David Bentley and Soldado) Hee Hee!! ??. I respect that and think it’s a good thing, this stops the club going into financial meltdown.

  7. lupus says:

neither player are good enough, and Vardy is a smoker , nicotine patches enhance performance , for a time.
Better to look at the Copa ,South America for a bargain.

  8. Ray says:

We need to get rid of Mertersacker he has had his day but to slow now and Gabriel Paulista has had his chances and he makes to many mistakes get rid of him and buy two good center half’s
Also get rid of Walcott and Ramsey the two are to inconsistent and we need another good attacking midfielder and another good striker
That about it and we will challah get in all competitions
