Price Agreed, Tottenham Close to Sealing a Pointless Deal

Pochettino-TottenhamLast summer, Tottenham Hotspur’s prime focus was reinforcing the back line and the North Londoners hired the services of three defenders.
The likes of Toby Alderweireld, Kevin Wimmer and Kieran Trippier arrived in the summer transfer window and Spurs now have a very strong defense.
Currently, Mauricio Pochettino has got the best defense in the Premier League. After 20 games, Spurs have only conceded 16 goals.

Now, Tottenham must strengthen their strike-force and sign someone who can provide cover in the absence of star striker Harry Kane and also support him upfront when needed.
However, reports suggest that Spurs are actually very interested in signing another defender in the form of Marseille center back Nicolas N’Koulou.
According to Express (via CalcioMercato), Spurs are close to signing the 25-year-old Cameroon star, the clubs have agreed a fee of 5.2 million pounds and the deal is set to be announced soon.
Even Wimmer has not got a fair chance yet and signing another defender makes no sense. Nicolas has featured in 21 games for Marseille this season who currently occupy 10th place in the Ligue 1.

we’ve been very lucky with injuries so far, and the season will only get tougher in terms of the number of games, therefore it makes sense to replace fazio and have two reliable back-ups. This also means toby and verts can be rested when neccesary.

I would normally agree with you but this is Tottenham we are talking about and Tottenham, along with Mr Levy, have a reluctance, when it comes to a striker, to buy one. I don’t know why this is the case but they do. I think Berbatov was the last real striker they bought and even he wasn’t a number 9. The only reason I can think of is that the out and out striker is the player that cost’s the big bucks and I think it frightens him. We are still £10 – £15 million behind what other top clubs offer…at least.

Defoe! Keane! Soldado! I don’t think he has bulked! We. Are 10-15m behind as we have not austained a champions league place and the 30-40m strikers will want champions league football

Total sense to replace Fazio. Injuries, suspensions and lots of tough games ahead.

So, when it the word is that Fazio will be sold, the InterWebs are filled with articles screaming that Spurs are ‘making a mistake’ and will be left short!!! When the word is that Spurs have a replacement lined up for Fazio the InterWebs are filled with articles screaming that Spurs are ‘making a mistake’ because he will be a pointless signing. LoL
I am far from convinced that there is anything happening anyway, and if it does, maybe he can play central defence (with a bit more experience than Wimmer – who I rate, anyway) and cover for Dier at holding midfield as well?

The players they already got in that position don’t get games if I was him I wouldn’t go there

  5. Essexian says:

It’s more a question of getting the right players in as opposed to just buying for the hell of it….if there’s a striker or two out there who can work with MP then I’m sure he’ll be in for him.but just getting them in because they happen to be available is not beneficial to anyone?

We’re going to need quality cover for when we’re playing in the Champions’ League.
