David Moyes left Manchester United in a complete mess and that was never going to be fixed in just one season.
Nevertheless, United did try the quick fix by adding world class players in the squad like Radamel Falcao on loan from Monaco and record signing Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid.
Unfortunately, both South American stars failed to shine. Understandable that Falcao was coming back after an injury hit season but Di Maria arrived at the peak of his game after helping Los Blancos win the Champions League.
After a torrid first season at Old Trafford where the Argentine mostly warmed the bench in the 2nd half losing his starting place to Ashley Young, it looks likely that Di Maria will depart this summer.
Manchester United though have already lined up a quality replacement in the form of his compatriot Nicolas Gaitan. Metro claim that according to reports in Portugal, Man United have agreed $33m deal with Benfica to sign the Argentine star this summer.
The 27 year old Benfica playmaker has been one of the best Primeira Liga players over the past few years and is considered a quality replacement for the former Benfica winger Di Maria.
As per the provided link, Manchester United hope to complete the signing once Angel di Maria’s departure from Old Trafford is confirmed.
In my opinion, it will be a crime to say that Gaitan is better than Di Maria. Nico was not even selected in Argentina’s Copa America squad while Di Maria has always been a key player for both club and country.
Just one bad season and Louis van Gaal has lost faith in him. It will be a massive blunder if they sell the Argentine.

Not a massive blunder to sell Di Maria at all!
Di Maria is/was a misfit for United. Plays 1 game then misses 3. Has a break-in at his home and he goes to pieces instead of putting the incident behind him and getting on with playing football!
Van Gaal gives him a game and he either goes missing or gets injured!
A total waste of space and money!!!
Di Maria should be sold and replaced by someone who will give 110% for United and be available for every game not just for his national team!
Please, don’t sell him. he’ll be better now we’ve acquired defensive mid-fielders. Please allow him to prove himself once more this season. If he does not perform, then you can go ahead to sell
If he is leaving no qualms, but if he decides to stay fine and good. Nicolas Gaitan will be a good replacement, we are not lacking in that direction at all. Areas of concern now are center back and forward. We need to replace Falcao and RVP.
Louis Van Gaal never said or in any way did he indicate that he lost faith in Di maria. In fact he was very supportive towards Di maria because he understood very well the premier league was the toughest league to come to and that it would require some time, at least a season, to adapt. So any suggestions of a move for Di maria is definitely instigated by parties other than lvg. However if it did come to that, lvg wouldn’t loose any sleep over it. He has the capability and the resource to fill the void in no time.
LVG Shuold give Di Marria a chance this season to prove his worth.
Angel Di Maria is in the list of top 5 best players in the world. LVG knows that and he does have faith in DiMaria. Selling him is not even an option. Please don’t…… We need a world class star like him for “Champions League”
Di maria should not be sold, LvG should stop wasting resources,because among DI
MARIA suitors,non is ready with the required amount that UNITED used in signing him last season.Let him plays for the money he signed for,he tried last season even,he did not play regularly,but he emerged United player with the highest assists last season.GIVE HIM TIME.

Basing on reality DI MARIA can’t manage premier league, because it is too physical; DI MARIA is too good but too weak to be sucessful in premier league, that is why he is always getting alot of injuries, so exchanging him with CAVANI will be a very good thing and also GAITAN is also very a perfect replacement replacement; Please WOODWARD and LVG am requesting you to sign ALEXANDRE LACAZATTE before Arsenal does so; Thanks.
