The Best Liverpool Since the Days of Benitez

The Best Liverpool Since the Days of BenitezLiverpool fans have been concerned about progress for a long time. Now, they can certainly say that the side has progressed and come a long way.
Brendan Rodgers has turned Liverpool into a fantastic team that not only grinds out results but plays brilliant football all round.
The Reds finished second in 2008-2009 under Rafael Benitez but since then, they have not even finished in the top 4.
Four seasons without champions league and the frustration is understandable. However, after a flying start to the new season, Liverpool are ready to get back to where they belong.
Star defender Glen Johnson believes that this Liverpool side he has played in since the day he signed for the club. England international claims:

“We’ve had some fantastic players in the past that have obviously moved on.”
“But in terms of a squad and starting XI, I think it’s the best since I’ve been around.”

In terms of star power, I do not think that this side is better than Liverpool’s 2008-2009 squad as Reds have still not been able to replace Alonso and Mascherano.
Nevertheless, it is still the best squad after that decline and after a full year of implementation of Rodgers’s system, Liverpool look a dangerous side.
Better in every department, Reds just need few quality players in January and the consistency to qualify for the top 4.
Who knows, they may as well win the premier league title against all odds.
