Chelsea Still look to Sign Top Quality CDM

Chelsea are still looking to sign a top quality central defensive midfielder as Mourinho always desires one in his system. With the potential departure of Mikel expected and the ageing factor of Michael Essien, Blues need to add a prolific CDM who can break play sitting in front of the back four.
The Londoners have been linked with numerous defensive midfielders this summer but have not been able to sign one as yet. Rafael Benitez effectively utilized David Luiz as a CDM for the blues last season but the Brazilian is heavily linked elsewhere as far as reports suggest.
The question remains, who will be Chelsea’s next top quality CDM, or will they continue to rely on veteran Essien.
First defensive mid who was linked with Chelsea even before the second coming of Jose as Blues manager was Sami Khedira. The German international is happy at Real Madrid but the competition for places is increasing there and he still has to impress new boss Ancelotti.
Moruinho is a huge admirer of Khedira but the Blues have not done anything of note as yet to sign Los Blancos star.
Another brilliant player linked was Roma’s Daniele De Rossi. The Italian World Cup winner has never played for any other club in his life and is likely to end his career with his boyhood club. Highly unlikely that he will move to Stamford Bridge.
Not so long ago, Chelsea were also reportedly interested in bringing back their former player Nemanja Matic. Matic was sold to Benfica in 2011 and has since grown to become their best player. He won Primeira Liga player of the year title last season and will cost Chelsea more than 20 million at least.
For now, the blues are focusing on somehow signing unsettled Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney. However, United are adamant and are holding on to their star player.
As far as CDM position is concerned, Chelsea do need a quality one for the next season. If they do not sign one, should Mourinho follow the strategy of Benitez and play Luiz as a CDM, or should he prefer veteran Michael Essien?
