Spurs Make Yet Another Move For Damiao

Spurs Make Yet Another Move For Damiao Despite Villas Boas's CommentsReports suggest that Tottenham Hotspurs have made yet another move to sign Internacional striker Leandro Damiao despite comments from Villas Boas that further deals are unlikely.
Currently Spurs are 4th in the premier league with only a single point ahead of 5th placed Everton. Also Liverpool and Arsenal are chasing the champions league place as well. Therefore, Tottenham must strengthen their squad to ensure they do not lose out on Europe’s top competition.
Spurs have a quality squad but they lack a top quality striker. Adebayor has been average this year and for now he is on international duty playing the African Cup of Nations. Adding to that, Jermain Defoe has been in good form but his hip injury is a concern for Spurs.
Not even 24 hours back, Manager Villas Boas claimed that Spurs will explore for options but it is not likely that they will sign anyone on deadline day. AVB claimed:

“It’s not impossible that a couple of things can happen, but it’s highly unlikely”

Nevertheless Villas Boas has been a huge admirer of Damiao and Spurs have approached the player several times during the past seasons but have failed to meet Internacional’s asking price.
The Brazilian international was the top scorer at the summer Olympics last year and his performances in London eventually attracted interest from top clubs of Europe. That is one of the main reasons why Internacional put a massive price tag on the striker.
However, after the Olympics, the 23 year old Damiao has not been in impressive form as he only managed to score 7 times in the Brazilian league. That may have dropped some millions from his asking price as Luis Cesar Souto de Moura claimed:

“Leandro Damiao will only leave if there is a very quick negotiation”

Perhaps that Spurs are ready for that quick negotiation and although there is not much time left, still Tottenham may make a late push to somehow complete the deal before the transfer deadline ends. Spurs fans will surely be sleeping late tonight to see how the deal unfolds.
