Robin van Persie will finally complete his so called dream move away from Arsenal, only to join their rivals Manchester United. Last year’s star striker leaves the gunner fans with scars that will take some time to heal but eventually they will get over him.
His departure is considered by fans as an act of betrayal and the Dutchman has successfully earned the title of “traitor” like many before him. None can blame the fans as it is the players who come up with words that make them forget the reality of today’s football and give hope of perhaps there is some loyalty left in the game but in vain. Van Persie claimed:
“The bottom line is that I want to win trophies with Arsenal, not with anybody else. I know you can win trophies in many countries and in many ways, but I want to do that in our way and in an Arsenal shirt”
“My heart is with Arsenal and I just can’t picture myself in a different shirt”
Fair to say a human heart can change but it’s not like players are not aware of the scenario in football, then why do they come up with statements trying to imprint their names in fans’ hearts as a legend. May be a certain Fernando Torres knows better who perhaps thinks that players do not have to be straight forward all the time and can lie at times as well.
“I hope to play for many years or maybe even finish my career here. Liverpool is my English team and I don’t think about playing for another one.”
Then there is Samir Nasri who refused to renew his contract and left Arsenal last summer for the riches of Manchester City, for money or for trophies that is another debate. He did win the league title last season still if you try to remember his words from 2010, for him such a situation should really be unfair and make him feel annoyed. Nah, obviously he loved it.
“It is annoying. The work we do is not getting the credit it deserves because we are not winning silverware”
“It is unfair because I think we have more merit as a club than those who have built their teams with millions of pounds”
From van Persie, one can expect him to lie again and wish the Gunner fans and the club well but why when he has chosen to play against them. And he must not expect Arsenal faithful to wish him well as all important for them is Arsenal’s success and not his.
