Liverpool are linked with more than a few quality playmakers and once again Sporting CP’s Gelson Martins is in the lime light.
The Reds were interested in signing the Portuguese international last summer but the move did not happen.
Now, according to an exclusive report covered by Record, Liverpool have closely monitored the Seleccao winger for months and now that Coutinho’s departure seems likely, Liverpool’s interest in Martins can turn serious and they could come up with a concrete offer to sign him.
The Portuguese source have further mentioned that Liverpool reps were present to watch Gelson against Benfica.
In the current campaign, the 22-year-old attacker has so far featured in 28 games for the Primeira Liga side, scored 9 goals and provided 7 assists.
Record claim Martins is a player that pleases Klopp but signing him in January is going to be very hard and only a mammoth offer could convince Sporting to sell their star in the middle of the season. The Portuguese outlet claim that Sporting are planning to increase Gelson’s release clause from €60million to €100million.
Liverpool already have top quality wingers in the form of Salah and Mane and they should actually sign a creative player to replace Coutinho, who could also operate in the midfield.
