Liverpool did not miss Coutinho against Manchester City at all. The Brazilian playmaker mainly played in the midfield this season for the Reds. Against the Sky Blues, the likes of Oxlade-Chamberlain, Can and Wijnaldum were brilliant in the center of the park.
The Reds have more than a few quality midfielders in the team but it will be fair to say that their best defensive midfielder is Emre Can.
The German international was impressive against the Citizens. Can was the man deployed to stop the creativity of De Bruyne and he brilliantly delivered for Jurgen Klopp.
After the game, Man United legend Gary Neville praised the former Bayer Leverkusen star and stated (Sky):
“The news about Can leaving, for me, I think he’s a fantastic player, with personality and character. I think he brings a lot to this Liverpool team in terms of character.”
The 24-year-old midfielder has so far featured in 27 games for the Reds this season, scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists. If Liverpool do have let a midfielder leave then they must sell Jordan Henderson, who is a specialist at nothing in the center of the park.
The good news for Liverpool is that Emre, who will be out of contract in summer, could even agree terms of a new deal with the Reds. He has himself confirmed that he is talking with the Merseysiders (Liverpool Echo).
“Of course I am talking with Liverpool. I still have a contract here. It is an amazing club. What can I say? My agent does the rest.”
In your opinion, should Klopp hand Can a huge pay rise to keep him at Anfield?
