Liverpool desperately need to sign a top quality center half in the winter transfer window if they are to challenge for big prizes in the second half of the campaign.
Like last season, the Reds have been shaky at the back this season as well and they have already conceded 17 goals in 11 Premier League games.
In the summer transfer window, the Merseysiders were heavily interested in hiring the services of Dutch international Virgil van Dijk but the Saints did not allow him to leave.
Lately, the former Celtic center half has claimed that he is happy at Southampton (Independent) and therefore, Klopp must look for a quality alternative in January.
In the summer window, Liverpool were also interested in another center half in the form of Uruguayan international and Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez (via Star), who has a huge release clause of £54million in his contract (via The Sun).
The 22-year-old center half is one of the best young defenders in La Liga but this season he has mainly warmed the bench under the management of Diego Simeone. In all competitions, he has only started 6 times in the current campaign.
The 22-year-old center back has already featured 37 times for the senior national side and has got a lot of experience. Since, he is not playing regularly and will be out of contract next summer, Atletico cannot really charge the entire release clause.
In such a scenario, Liverpool have to take advantage and must secure his signing in winter. At Anfield, he can get the chance to start regularly and prepare himself well for the next year’s World Cup.
