Manchester United are in search of a solid defensive midfielder and French international Tiemoue Bakayoko has been on their wanted list for a long time now.
Yesterday, we covered a report (via MEN) claiming that the 22-year-old star is interested in joining the Old Trafford club if they can secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
Now, according to Mirror, the Red Devils are ready to step up their interest in signing the Les Bleus star. Jose Mourinho wants Bakayoko at the club and trusts Ed Woodward to finally secure his signature.
Tiemoue is one of the best defensive midfielders around and will be the perfect long term replacement for Michael Carrick at Old Trafford.
As per the provided Mirror link, Bakayoko is rated around £40million, however, as per French sources, Monaco want at least 60 million euros (52million) for their superstar DM (via FootMercato).
The presence of French stars like Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba at Old Trafford could attract Bakayoko as well but his preference is to join a side, who will take part in the UCL.
This season, he has so far featured in 41 games for Monaco, scored three goals and also provided an assist.
With only 8 games left, Monaco are leading the league table and Bakayoko is focusing on helping the team win the coveted title. Moreover, the French side have been fantastic in the Champions League as well and will meet German Bundesliga side Dortmund in the last eight.
