Wenger Ready to Agree £52million Star Signing – Do Arsenal Need Him?

Arsenal do not seem very active in the winter transfer window but reports suggest that they are planning to seriously reinforce their squad next summer.

Currently, the Gunners are fourth in the table, eight points behind league leaders Chelsea and must strengthen their team this month to have any chance of winning the title.

Nevertheless, reports in the Italian media (Corriere della Sera) claim that Arsenal are ready to launch the assault and sign Kostas Manolas next summer and Manchester United are planning to do the same.

The Sun recently reported that AS Roma rate the center half around £52million. This means that the Gunners may have to break their transfer record to hire the services of the 25-year-old Greek defender. The question is, do Arsenal need him?

Wenger has been looking to sign the former Olympiacos star for a long time now. Last summer, Arsenal were heavily linked with a move to lure Manolas but failed and eventually secured the signing of German star Mustafi.

Kostas is arguably the best defender in the Serie A and therefore Roma would not like to lose him. As far as Arsenal are concerned, their central defense is strong at the moment with Koscielny and Mustafi as the first choice pair.

On the other hand, they have players like  Paulista and Mertesacker to provide cover as well. However, Per is past his best, Gabriel is just okay and Holding is inexperienced. In such a scenario, Wenger must splash the cash to strengthen the back line.

The Premier League is getting tougher every season and without quality depth, winning the title is almost impossible. Hence, Wenger must do whatever it takes to beat Man United and sign Manolas.

In your opinion, do Arsenal need Kostas Manolas?

Bonaroca:- If Arsenal are capable of signing an extra defender like Manolas this would be good because
there could be a rotation and covers up for any serious injuries. But this is one big problem, top quality
players do not like to be second fiddle players. One only has to take into consideration Alex Sanches
    disappointment when he was substituted.
Mr Wenger in my opinion was correct. In this case the team relies much on Sanches who plays, one would
say 90 minutes non stop, and so there is no doubt when the team has a 4 goal advantage a rest for your
top player means that you would be gaining or giving a rest for the next match..
