Liverpool have struggled in the absence of Sadio Mane and they must splash the cash to sign a cover playmaker until the Senegalese star returns from the AFCON.
Recently, we covered a report (via Daily Mail) claiming that the Reds are ready to sign Jamaican attacker Leon Bailey who plays for Belgian side Genk.
Now, according to the latest reports in Portugal (Record), the Reds could get 22-year-old attacker, Lazar Markovic, back this month.
The Serbian international moved to Anfield when Brendan Rodgers was in charge of the club and signed a contract (Star) worth £45,000-a-week ($56,000-a-week). After an average first season with the Merseysiders, the former Benfica man has only played on loan.
Last summer, he was loaned out to Sporting CP, he has played 14 games (7 starts) for the Portuguese side and scored 2 goals this season.
As per the provided Record link, Sporting are looking to cancel Lazar’s loan spell and send him back to Liverpool this month, however, since he has not played enough games, they may have to pay a cancellation fee to the Merseysiders.
Markovic can play on either flank and also as a secondary striker but is he good enough to improve the current Liverpool attack? Don’t think so.

Add to that the annoying fact that we seem determined to keep Sakho despite bids coming in for him and his not being near to a place even on the bench so what on Earth are we doing? We keep hearing that we need somebody to replace mane whilst he is at the African Cup of Nations yet there is no actual movement even though that competition is now well under way and Mane could be back quite soon now. Let’s just admit it, we aren’t going to buy anybody – despite a downturn in our results in recent weeks – and we are going to keep every waste of space we’ve already got!
