Liverpool’s defense has been shaky since the departure of Rafael Benitez from the club. Moreover, the Reds have badly missed a top quality goalkeeper since Pepe Reina lost his form few seasons ago.
Simon Mignolet was inconsistent under the management of Brendan Rodgers. Moreover, even under Jurgen Klopp, the Belgian goalie failed to shine last season.
To solve the goalkeeping problem, the German manager opted to sign a new goalie last summer and lured Loris Karius from the Bundesliga.
Unfortunately, the former FSV Mainz goalie has been terrible for the Reds since completing his move in the summer transfer window. After horrendous performances against Bournemouth and West Ham, Klopp opted to drop him and bring Mignolet back.
Simon has kept two clean sheets in two games since returning but reports suggest that Jurgen wants to solve the dilemma by signing another goalie and now Kasper Schmeichel is in the limelight.
According to reports (Football Whispers), Liverpool have moved in and inquired about signing the Leicester City star in the winter transfer window.
Kasper was influential in helping Leicester win the PL title last season but the entire Foxes team have been average in the league this season. They did top the CL group and the Danish goalie has not conceded a single goal in the competition so far (4 apps).
Rainieri rates Schmeichel highly and heavily praised him last month. The Italian boss claimed (Mirror):
“Kasper is fantastic, I have coached a lot of big champions in goal, Kasper is one of these. He has had two perfect seasons.”
As per the provided Football Whispers link, Liverpool will find it hard to sign him next month unless they make a huge offer. In your opinion, is Schmeichel better than Mignolet/Karius and should Liverpool sign him?

Shmichael is not better than Mignolet. I agree that Mignolet has made some catastrophic mistakes in goal for Liverpool but we really have to question the quality of the defense wall in front of him and the quality of his challenger. He did not have anybody keeping him on his toes. Any world class keeper will perform woefully if guarded by mediocre defenders. I still have believe in Mignolet to become more solid if Liverpool would sign quality defenders.

any goalie is only as good as his defense – rather shore up our defense than buy a scheimel.

Joe Hart is error prone. I’d rather go for Foster or Forster. I’d rather we stuck with Mignolet for the time being. He’s a fantastic shot stopper. But I suspect the problems with our keepers go back to the coaching staff. We’ve had problems for a number of years and Achtberg I believe has been at the club for all that time.
am in the opinion that a good goal keeper is as good as the defenders. our goal keeper are not bad, we need good and quality defenders.

@Idris. Man U defense is miles better than ours. Please check the statistics before you make your comments. Check how many goals have been let in by defender errors at Lfc end compared to Man U. this season alone. Yes, you may say we need better keeper than Mignolet but our defense only ranks among relegation prone teams- Bunley, Palace, Westham, etc.
