Tottenham have brilliantly improved under the management of Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine manager has been able to hold onto his key players and that is one of the main reasons why Spurs are flying high.
However, the former Southampton boss has not been able to agree new deals with more than a few star players and captain Hugo Lloris is one of them. Recently, the French international has suggested that he is in no rush to sign a new deal with the club (ES).
Currently, Lloris is earning £80,000-a-week and clearly deserves to earn way more than that. If Pochettino does not act swiftly then Lloris’ departure will not be a surprise and quite possibly, he may end up joining Manchester United.
In the past, United have been interested in signing Hugo and the move was on the cards (Daily Mail) but somehow they have been able to hold onto De Gea and hence the Les Bleus star was not needed.
David de Gea has won United’s Player of the Year award in the past three seasons but the performances of the club have not been up to the mark.
He is still a wanted man at Real Madrid (Express via Mundo Deportivo) and may look to join the Spanish giants because things are not improving even under Mourinho.
His departure may re-ignite United’s interest in Lloris. The Red Devils are paying De Gea £200,000-a-week and may offer the same to sign a top quality replacement. Such a sum will surely be tempting for Hugo since Spurs are only looking to hand him a new deal worth £100,000-a-week (Football Insider).
Spurs cannot match United’s buying power or the pay-structure. Can they hold onto Lloris? They must.

If it’s based career opportunities he will stay at Tottenham. There is something seriously wrong at Manchester United where already it is clear the players do not want to play for Mourinho (what a surprise). Tottenham have CL football this season and a much better chance of doing so than Manchester United next season. Chuck in the new ground and living in London, I reckon he’ll stay. Having said all that and wasted 2 minutes of my life, the story is, of course, complete garbage.

Agree with most of what you say. However, if the wages figures quoted in the story are anyway close to reality, and if one assumes Hugo has another five productive years in goal, then the difference in earnings for that five years is £26 million.
Even allowing for half of that going in tax (just guessing that tax rate, don’t know anything about the UK tax regime) then that’s still a huge amount of extra take-home pay which would make an enormous difference to his children and grand-children down the road. So if that scenario develops, then Hugo has a lot of thinking to do.
The other side of it of course is if we can hold on to him until the new stadium is up and running in two years time, with the gate receipts almost doubling, we will then be in a better position to try to match offers from other clubs and hold on to him (and others) and keep our team together. So Daniel and Poch could have a bit of fancy bargaining to do in the meantime and hopefully they will be successful. COYS.
