Why Arsenal are Favorites to Finally Sign €42million Superstar

Arsenal FA Cup 2005Having reinforced his squad by signing the likes of Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka and Japanese striker Takumsa Asano, Arsene Wenger must sign a top quality attacking midfielder in the summer transfer window.
Last summer, the Gunners were interested in signing Leicester City superstar playmaker Riyad Mahrez (Daily Star). Now, it will be fair to say that the North Londoners are favorites to hire the services of the Algerian international who deservedly won the PFA Player of the Year prize last season.
According to reports (Mirror), Barcelona are not looking to sign Mahrez, however, Chelsea and Manchester City are interested in luring the £35 million rated (€42million) attacker.
Arsenal have the edge over Chelsea because the Blues will not be taking part in the UEFA Champions League next season. As per the provided Mirror link, Riyad is looking to get a contract that will make him earn £120,000-a-week. The Gunners can surely meet his wage demands.
As far as Manchester City are concerned, they already have an overcrowded attacking midfield with players like Nasri, Silva, De Bruyne, Navas, Sterling and new signing Nolito around. Moreover, the Sky Blues are heavily interested in signing another attacker in the form of German youngster Leroy Sane (Daily Mail).
Therefore, Guardiola does not need Mahrez and even the Algerian may avoid such competition for places at the Etihad.
In such a scenario, Arsenal must push forward and finally secure the signature of Riyad Mahrez. If the African star does end up moving to the Emirates, he will most likely partner Ozil and Alexis in Arsenal’s attacking midfield.
