Copa America – Top Three Contenders for Golden Boot

copa-america-trophyChile won their first Copa America title last year after beating Argentina in the final of the competition. Chile’s Eduardo Vargas and Peru’s Paolo Guerrero finished the tournament as joint top scorers with 4 goals each. Who will come out on top this time around.
Fifteen time winners Uruguay will be delighted with the return of prolific forward Luis Suarez. The former Liverpool star missed last year’s competition due to suspension.
Here are the Top 3 Contenders for the Copa America Golden Boot Prize.
Luis Suarez
The Barcelona superstar is arguably the best striker in the world at the moment. Suarez won the European Golden Shoe award after scoring no fewer than 40 goals in La Liga last season.
Over all, the 29-year-old striker scored 59 goals in 53 games for the Spanish giants. Not only that, he also provided 26 assists.
Gonzalo Higuain
The Argentine international scored three goals in last year’s competition. The Napoli forward broke the Serie A goal scoring record in the last campaign after netting 36 goals in 35 games.
Will he be able to replicate his club form with the national side? Only time will tell. Not to forget, he will probably start up front with Sergio Aguero.
Lionel Messi
Messi had an injury hit campaign with Barceona last season. Moreover, he was one of the flops of the tournament in last year’s Copa America. The La Albiceleste playmaker could only score a single goal in the competition that too from the spot.
He has rarely been able to replicate his club form with Argentina but one can never count out a player of his quality. Messi netted 41 goals in 49 games for Barca in all competitions last season.
