Some Achievement – Bournemouth Confirm Premier League Stay

AFC BournemouthUnder the management of Eddie Howe, AFC Bournemouth deservedly won the English Championship and were promoted to the Premier League for the first time.
Not many thought that the club would be able to survive relegation in their debut PL campaign. Howe was under immense pressure mainly in the first half of the season and there were doubts whether he could step up to the challenge.
However, the team battled hard, stepped up big time to prove the doubters wrong and now Bournemouth have confirmed PL stay despite their defeat against Everton at the weekend.
At the moment, the Cherries have 41 points from 36 games, 9 points above the relegation zone. Everton won 2-1 at Goodison Park on Saturday but results elsewhere ensured Bournemouth’s top flight status for another season.
Ahead of their first campaign in the Premier League, Bournemouth unveiled their new shirt sponsor, the Mansion Group, an online gaming business who have renowned brands like Club777 and slots heaven.
The Cherries started the season brightly with wins against the likes of West Ham United and Sunderland early on. After 6 league games, Bournemouth had 7 points and found themselves in 11th place in the Premier League. However, disaster struck when star striker Callum Wilson suffered a Cruciate Ligament injury against Stoke City away from home in September.
The 24-year-old England international was influential last season as he directly contributed in 33 goals (20 goals and 13 assists) to help Bournemouth win the championship. Wilson made a brilliant start in the Premier League as well. He scored 5 goals in the first 6 games including a hat-trick against the Hammers at Upton Park.
His absence was a major blow for Bournemouth who failed to win in the next 8 league games (5 defeats). After 13 games, the club were in 18th place when Everton visited the Dean Court and that is where the revival started.
Bournemouth bounced back from 2-0 down to level the scores against Martinez’s men, went behind again in the 95th minute and fought back to equalize again in the 98th minute.
After that heroic fight back against Everton, the rejuvenated Bournemouth team won their next three fixtures in the league and defeated Premier League giants like Chelsea and Manchester United in back to back games.
Unfortunately, the Cherries failed to confirm their PL stay with a win over Everton, nevertheless, the mission has been accomplished and it is some achievement from the team.
