Benteke Shines – Liverpool Ratings vs Southampton

PLLiverpool fans will be disappointed with third straight draw under the management of new boss Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds were on their way to victory against Southampton thanks to a second half goal from Christian Benteke but the Saints equalized late on from a set-piece to earn a point at Anfield.
The Merseysiders have now drawn 8 out of their last 9 games much to the despair of the supporters. Next up, Liverpool will host Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup.

The Reds started the same XI that played against Tottenham last weekend and once again they failed to create any decent opportunity in the first half.
On came Benteke after half time and completely changed the complexion of the match. Liverpool started to dominate play and were eventually rewarded in the 77th minute. Minutes later, a defensive lapse cost the Reds big time and Mane leveled the scoreline.
Here are Liverpool player ratings against Southampton.

I don’t think whoever gave these player ratings was at the same match as me yesterday. Lucas had another outstanding game doing what he does best – preventing things from happening. He was equally effective in the second half, as was Sakho. I agree that Benteke changed the game, but the movement and contribution of Firmino made a big contribution also, far more so than Lallana who huffed and puffed ineffectively as usual.
As for Moreno he had one of his best games for Liverpool and his tackle in the secong half was outstanding and possibly match saving.
Finally why no rating for Mignolet?
