Chelsea only conceded 32 goals in the Premier League last season and deservedly became the champions.
This season, in the opening five league games, the Blues have already lost three games and conceded no fewer than 12 goals as well. The stats are horrific taking into consideration that Jose Mourinho is renowned for setting up rock solid defenses.
Branislav Ivanovic has told Chelsea TV that the team needs to wake up (Goal). The Serbian defender claimed:
“We need one big win to come back to our way. We are not playing as badly as the results are showing but we have to wake up,”
“I think at the moment we are being punished for all our mistakes. The only way we can change is to work hard and be ready for the next game, so it is like a final and we have to play like a final.”
In all fairness, the veteran defender’s latest comments are an absolute joke as the one player who seriously needs to wake up is none other than Ivanovic himself.
The 31-year-old star was part of the PFA team of the year last season but this season he has been the worst player for the Blues by some distance.
Despite his terrible performances, it is baffling that manager Jose Mourinho has not yet ousted Ivanovic from the starting lineup. He deserves to warm the bench for sometime.
