Spurs Close in & Hope $18.4m Signing will be DONE Swiftly

Tottenham’s defense has been woeful over the past few years and one of the main reasons behind that is not having a strong defensive midfielder in the squad.
Spurs have been interested in Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin but it looks highly likely that the French international is heading to Manchester United.
Hence, the North Londoners are now interested in another Les Bleus star in the form of Giannelli Imbula who is a key member of Marseille squad.
According to reports, Spurs are closing in on $18.4m rated holding midfield star. Chelsea are reportedly interested as well but they have not moved in yet and Tottenham hope that Imbula signing will be done swiftly.
The 22 year old star has been ever present for the Ligue 1 side this season as he featured in 39 games for the club, scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists as well.
Tottenham should be considered favorites for his signature for several reasons. The main reason mentioned in the provided Mirror link is that Marseille are interested in current Spurs star Stambouli. Hence Benjamin can be used in the deal to sign Imbula.
On the other hand, Chelsea already have one of the best defensive midfielders in the world in Nemanja Matic, a back up in Mikel and young Zouma has played brilliantly as holding midfielder.
Blues really do not need any DM at the moment and even Imbula will realize that he is likely going to warm the bench behind Matic if he opts to move to Stamford Bridge.
