Liverpool Must Leave Southampton Alone for Good

Southampton ClyneAfter coming very close to winning the title in 2013-2014, many expected Liverpool to strengthen with world class players to be able to compete this season as well.
However, Liverpool went backwards. With Champions League football around, instead of signing proven CL talent, Reds focused a lot on signing Southampton stars.
Last summer, the likes of Lambert, Lallana and Lovren left Saints to join Anfield club and in all honesty, all of them failed to shine.
Lambert was always going to get fewer games, Lallana proved inconsistent whereas Lovren who was arguably one of the best central defenders in the league in 2013-2014 proved horrific for the Reds as he made errors for fun.
Now that Liverpool have failed to finish in the top four and will not be playing CL football next season, Reds look towards Southampton again to make amends.
According to reports, Liverpool made a 10 million pounds bid for fullback Nathaniel Clyne but Saints have rejected the offer.
Surely that low a fee was always going to be rejected when in the media he has been rated around 20 million pounds.
Clyne was one of the best full backs in the league last season and earned his place for the English national side as well. However, Liverpool have had enough experiments from Southampton and must look elsewhere if they are eventually going to splash 15-20 million.
Moreover, Rodgers is a hopeless manager when it comes to defense. Signed the likes of Sakho, Toure, Cissokho, Manquillo, Moreno, Lovren and even had top defenders in Carra, Skrtel and Agger but still Liverpool’s defense has not improved one bit.
The mentioned players are by no means crap defenders and manager is the main man to blame here for not being able to fix the defense in his three years at the club. Liverpool cannot afford to waste $$$ again with no improvement.

Dont say that……we enjoyed making a fortune out of them last season and buying better players for half the price 🙂

I don’t blame you for saying that Jason. Liverpool were pretty much extorted last season and the worst thing being, they were stupid to pay it. Two of the three players have been nothing more than expensive flops. One part of the article was bang on the money but did not go quite far enough. Rodgers has completely failed in his capacity as manager. Some of his most recent signings have done nothing more than waste money and little else. They were good players in their own right at their previous club, but due to the management here, look for the most part, desperately average. Why bring in any one else to add to that pile? They need to trim the fat at the top!
