Arsenal were well aware of their defensive concerns and needed two main signings in the form of defensive midfielder and central defender.
As far as the defensive midfield is concerned, Gunners completed the signing of young Croatian international Krystian Bielik from Legia Warsaw and even though Wenger believes he is first team material, not many are that ecstatic with his arrival.
A proven quality DM like Khedira or Carvalho would have surely excited the fans but for now they have someone who is stepping up to the level needed.
French international Coquelin has been brilliant in defensive midfield lately and was rock solid against Manchester City in their last win. If he maintains that form, then surely Arsenal do not need any other DM with Flamini, Arteta and Bielik now there as back up.
As far as central defense is concerned, Gunners were unable to replace Vermaelen in summer but as per reports, Arsenal are closing in to sign Gabriel Paulista as they are in talks with La Liga side Villareal to complete the deal.
The Brazilian star is in top form and one of the main reasons why Villareal are fighting for CL place. He has featured in 28 games for the Yellow Submarine this season.
According to Sky, the 24 year old star has a release clause of $23 million (£15m) in his contract. Gunners may have to activate that to secure his services.
