Louis van Gaal is well aware of the fact that he has to improve the quality of Manchester United’s defense in the next transfer window.
The Red Devils badly need a world class central defender and leader in their defense but the availability of such talents is rare during winter.
Still, as per latest reports, Manchester United are surprisingly going to move for yet another left back in the form of Barcelona star Jordi Alba.
Not to forget, United already signed no less than three players who can play as left back. Luke Shaw from Southampton who cost a hell lot, Marcos Rojo from Sporting who mainly played as LB for Argentina during World Cup and Daley Blind who Van Gaal used as left wing back for Netherlands in Brazil.
With all these options at disposal and key requirement being the central defender, signing Jordi Alba will not make much sense, also when he is rated around €32m by the Catalan giants.
Alba played pivotal role in helping Spain win the Euro 2012 and Barcelona the league title in 2013 but Luis Enrique is ready to offload the defender.
As per the provided link, Alba is Arsenal’s transfer target as well. Monreal is past his best and could be sold soon while Gibbs still remains injury prone. Someone like Alba can surely improve their defense.
As far as United are concerned, they really need to spend the mentioned sum on a top quality center back and definitely not on another left back.
