Arsenal are now in the market for a quality midfielder this summer, preferably a defensive one and William Carvalho is eyes as the perfect man.
The Portuguese midfielder has been a long term target of Manchester United as their scouts watched him a dozen times and were serious about signing him.
However, the interest was heavy under the management of David Moyes. Since his exit from the club and the arrival of Louis van Gaal, United’s interest in William Carvalho has cooled down.
Instead, the Red Devils have signed Ander Herrera from Atheltic Bilbao and now want Arturo Vidal to complete the midfield set.
In such a scenario, Arsenal have taken the lead and as per reports, they are all set to beat United and co to sign the Sporting Lisbon star.
As per the provided link, the Primeira Liga side were previously reluctant to sell their prized asset and wanted his £37m release clause to be met.
However, now Sporting are considering selling him for a cut price to reduce financial burden and also reinvest the money to sign new players.
Hence Arsenal have offered £24m upfront to hire the services of the versatile holding midfielder who has been one of the hits in the Portuguese league.
Chelsea are also reportedly interested in signing him but for they already signed a top quality holding midfielder in Nemanja Matic from Benfica last winter. He has been impressive and Blues do not really need another DM.
