Carra takes a Swipe at Torres again – Why so much Hate?

Carra takes a Swipe at Torres again - Why so much Hate?No one can deny that Fernando Torres was one of the best Liverpool strikers of the past decade, one of the best to wear the coveted number 9 shirt. El Nino holds the record of scoring fastest 50 goals for the reds.
During his time at Merseyside, Torres was a fan favorite, a loved rather worshipped figure. The hate relation among fans started after his move to premier league rivals Chelsea. However, one Liverpool star never really liked him even when he was a red. The player in fact is recently retired Jamie Carragher who has taken a swipe at Fernando Torres again.
Perhaps only Carra will know the reason for disliking and so much hate for Torres as the legendary defender claimed after his departure that even though Nando used to bang goals week in week out, still he was quite a reserve figure, never used to talk much.
Do not see any problem in that though because as far as his on field performances are concerned, he was arguably one of the best if not the best out and out strikers in the league for three years. His record speaks out loud.
Then again, Carragher was asked about his top 5 Liverpool transfers and he took another swipe at El Nino, his last one was none other than Torres’s departure to Chelsea. He claimed it was a good piece of business done by the club. Well it was an okay piece of business as they effectively wasted 35 million pounds on Carroll as well who has recently been sold by the club to West Ham.
Now Carra takes a swipe at Torres again by coming up and comparing Luis Suarez’s transfer saga with Fernando Torres’s. The new sky sports pundit claimed:

“I do believe that Suarez is a slightly different character to Fernando Torres,”
“The thing about keeping unhappy players is an issue because we had that experience with Torres and keeping him wasn’t the right thing to do. Torres wasn’t the same player for about 18 months and that’s certainly what you don’t want.”

Now that is a plain lie. Yes, Torres was not at his best after returning from injuries but he needed time and even then he did score 9 league goals in 23 outings. He was not playing with heart for the reds, was average by his standards but only for last 6 months, never for 18.
Fernando Torres was not fully fit during 2009-2010 campaign yet he was easily the best Liverpool player that season as far as attack is concerned. El Nino scored 22 goals in 32 outings, which is a remarkable stat given his injury concerns.
The hate among the fans is justifiable but Carragher’s hatred does not make much sense. Torres’s departure may have ruined every bit of good he did for the reds but Carra or any Liverpool fan cannot argue about the fact that his stats for the Anfield side were brilliant.

  1. Niska says:

That because had Torres stayed, he will have become a bigger legend than Carragher
That because Torres was the superstar at Liverpool and normaly we used to hear Carras name after Gerrard but when Nando was there it was always Gerrard and Torres.
Thats how the hoofball man was worried and hates Torres

    • Fitz07 says:

Jeez, how little you know. Carra’s hatred comes about through the self-serving horseshit Nando spouted about a) his love for our club; b) his last minute need to jump ship; c) his post-move crap regarding us and chelski. Of course he vented his spleen about the rat, he’s Scouse and now bleeds red having come through our ranks from boyhood. As far as ‘fearing Torres would become more of a legend than him’, the mind boggles at the stupidity of this statement. Carra is contemporary with Fowler and Gerrard having been a junior when both Rush and Dagger were still around the club. Who the fuck is Torres compared to all these Reds??

      • Kris says:

TOrres is nothign compared to all these Reds you mentioned but HAD he stayed and played the way on top of his game for us for the rest of his career then i bet he would have become a legend above Carra.
Torres joined at 23, DALGLISH joined at the age of 27 and became the best player in Liverpool’s history so TOrres had the chance of becoming a legend as well but he ruined it. and yes bigger than Carra as when he was here he was more important than Carra to our side. Just facts

  2. j75j says:

LOL Why so much hate? You don’t know what was being said in the dressing room! Carragher saw at first hand how the Torres we first saw change to that hands on hip sulking player.
He sulked at Liverpool thought he could get a transfer and everything would be okay but he betrayed himself with his sulking and it still effects him now at Chelsea!

  3. Dashrm says:

after his departure OK but why he din like him when he was scoring for fun for Liverpool ??

    • Joe says:

Is there any evidence that he didn’t?

      • Haek says:

For some reason im unable to find the link of the fact stated here about Carra not liking Torres reserve attitude
he said Torres bang goals but was always quiet, something he really did not need to comment on because what mattered was his goals nothing else

  4. Rich says:

What a ridicoulus statement fromNiska there…Carra was worried? Behave lad Carra has made over 700 appearances and won countless trophy’s Torres would never have ever got close. Torres was a disgrace after the 2010 World Cup in his Liverpool performances and I can relate to everything Carra said about him.Check the period Carra is talking about. Torres is all about himself and now Chelski fans are seeing the petulant child like attitude we came to see from Torres..and Carra is the ultimate professional and plays with passion and committment so he has every right to question a team mate who was not giving 100% to the team…ever been to Anfield or ever seen a game in real life Niska? No thought not just another cyber fan and has never actually paid hard earned money to see the team play and give the lads supports….idiot

  5. Joe says:

As the most committed Liverpool stalwart of at least his generation, Carragher is better qualified than anybody to comment on the commitment displayed by his team-mates.
If Carragher contends that Torres’ commitment was lacking for 18 months, you can take it to the bank he’s being honest. What further reason does he need to hate the guy?

  6. buddha9 says:

Because he moved to a bigger club to win things liverpool can’t provide. And he has!

    • Fitz07 says:

You are confusing the terms ‘big’ and ‘rich’ lad.

      • al says:

how exactly are liverpool still a big club? one serious title challenge in 23 years. If thats big id rather be rich.

    • anthonykimberlfc says:

chelsea have bought their glory and you cant say they have not shitty top 7 prem team for 10s and 20 or 30 years liverpool have always been a top team chelsea use are the 1st london team 2 win the champions league ONCE london has won it ONCE north WEST 8 times u cockney c*nts

  7. Matt says:

Torres was for me the best striker in the world for his first 2 years at Anfield. He still scored goals and for that reason was one of our best players in the last 18 months but his performance level had definitely dropped. If you watched ALL the matches that was obvious.
How on earth you can say something Jaime Carragher says is a ”plain lie”, is just ridiculous. He trained with him everyday and actually knew Fernando. He is fully qualified to make an opinion. You however, are watching from the outside and probably watch 20 games a season. It is your opinion that is useless.

    • Matt
Yes Carra trained with him and would know Fernando better but if he was performing brilliantly on the field that is in 2009-2010 then really Carra should have the same comments about Suarez as well
Instead he says that Suarez will not be giving that problem because of the kind of person he is. although he clearly states that Suarez might not be happy as well so what does that mean?
We all know that off field problems or unhappiness does not influence Suarez as he gives 100% on the field no matter what.
So if that is the case then Torres did what mattered in 2009-2010 campaign, he may not have been happy with our CL exit but when on field he was no less than fantastic. Then it realy does not matter whether he changed or not in last 18 months because his performances were only bad for last 6 and you can blame a hell lot on INJURIES for that.

  8. CMW says:

It’s a fair comment actually. He is comparing two very different individuals. Torres’ attitude was awful in his last 18 months, and at the time as a fan I said it was because of injuries too, but that is a lie. Torres grew disillusioned very early on, and it was present in his comments and on-pitch attitude. He had a soft spot for the club, but not for the people running it. The difference between Torres nd Suarez is, Suarez wouldn’t and isn’t looking for a transfer on the 31stof January. Suarez is talking it up in June. Torres left mid-season right before the window shut. That is awful. Liverpool then rushed to spend the money for cover. Mistakes all round, but Torres is not undeserving of the animosity. And Torres didn’t talk up another country’s top club, he talked up and got his transfer to one of Liverpool’s closest rivals. Let’s sum it up: a last minute, mid-season transfer to a close rival. That is awful. And Torres has got, and will get what hedeserves. RVP had the decency to make an off season move with time to spare for Arsenal. Suarez can go to Madrid with fair forewarning, off season and with time for Liverpool to make adjustments. That is obvious. So, try again.

  9. Miles says:

The hatred came about because while Torres was still with Liverpool, he had, on several occasions in the presence of other team-mates, told Carra that the latter was more suited to being a ball-boy than a professional footballer. Torres made the remark in reference to Carra’s limited technical and tactical ability as a footballer. Several team-mates also overheard Torres remarked that it was an embarrassment to play alongside a so-called legend who has such a poor first touch of the ball and an equally shameful second touch.

  10. ian says:

torres let himself down…for what??? he,s finished now went to a money team and lost his form…and himself..sold out for money…..suarez is much better …than torres…………

  11. bernar says:

talking out of pain. bicos he left for a bigger club and won everything you could not give to him

  12. bernar says:

just one goal paid off all the cost chelsea spent on torries. barcer vrs chelsea

  13. jack says:

Torres was a great player and still has that little sparkle at chelsea as he did at liverpool but obviously that doesn’t shine as much but he has said that if he loves LFC post move but you cant expect a great player like Torres to stick to a club that didn’t win a trophy in 5 years so understandable that he left but the fact that he said he wasn’t wanted by the club is the part that annoyed a lot of LFC fans

  14. Bomber25 says:

I don’t think there is any bad feeling on Carragher’s part towards Torres. After all, Torres did not score against Liverpool while he played against Carragher; so that should quench any thought of Torres being a superior player. Torres was brought in to score goals, and Carragher’s was to prevent us from conceeding them. Either way you look at it, both players did their jobs magnificently well, and served Liverpool during the period of their times with our great club.
