Liverpool Legend Will Not Follow in Torres’s Footsteps

Liverpool Legend Will Not Follow in Torres’s FootstepsFormer Liverpool midfielder and legend Xabi Alonso is linked in perhaps the most shocking rumor of the week. The Real Madrid star is reported to be joining Chelsea after the end of the current campaign to stay alongside his current manager Jose Mourinho.
Chelsea may as well be interested in signing another ex Liverpool man as he only has a year left on his contract with Los Blancos and the blues can hire his services for cheap. However, Alonso is not likely to follow in the footsteps of Fernando Torres.
The footballing world knows why the Anfield faithful hates the man they once loved the most. Despite claiming that Liverpool is his English club, Torres departed to join rivals Chelsea and thus faces the wrath of Liverpool fans since.
On the other hand, Alonso was another significant player for Liverpool who departed in 2009 to join Spanish giants Real Madrid. One that the reds have failed to replace as yet.
The difference between Torres’s and Alonso’s move is clear. Torres departed to compete for titles at the expense of his former club while Alonso went home and is still warmly welcomed at Anfield and loved by the supporters as a legendary figure.
The Spaniard has reiterated about his love for Reds many a times. Although, Liverpool have failed to qualify for the Champions League since Alonso’s departure but if he ever opts to come back to premier league, Liverpool will be his likely destination. Alonso claimed:

“I spent five fantastic years in Liverpool. It was an experience that – I didn’t feel that when I got there that it was going to be as wonderful as it ended being.”
“I am really attached to Liverpool, so who knows in the future.”

Xabi Alonso won the prestigious Champions League and FA Cup titles with Liverpool during his 5 year tenure at Merseyside and is clearly aware of the fact how Liverpool supporters treat Torres. The last thing on his mind will be to break that bond with the club by joining Chelsea.
With Mourinho’s inevitable departure from Spain, Alonso is not the first Madrid player to be linked with a move to Chelsea. Khedira and even Ronaldo has been linked in rumors of following their current manager.
For Liverpool fans, the thought of witnessing Xabi Alonso in that blue shirt of Chelsea may as well be more horrific and painful than it was in Torres’s case but it is near impossible that something like that will happen.

Torres had won 0 titles before joining Chelsea, Alonso has his best titles and memories with Liverpool, and no motivation moving from RM to CFC – NO CHANCE

There has been some talk recently of Torres returning to LFC. I doubt it, but who knows as he can play in the BR system. Whether the fans would accept him is another matter, but we’re not like Chelski fans are we. As much as many of us would love to have Xabi Alonso back too we all know FSGs stance on overage players, so unless he was to come on a free forget it. To have him working alongside Stevie G again would be fantastic.

Please don’t even compare Alonso and Torres. The reasons why they left Liverpool are different.
Alonso wanted to go home. Torres wanted to win more trophies (which he did).
Alonso going to Chelsea is no big deal. Seriously Liverpool don’t deserve to have Alonso.
Very simply said, they don’t know what they want…titles? EPL trophy? Champions League? Qualify for Europe? Or be content with mid table placing?
