Why Russians are Favorites Against Brazil

Why Russians are Favorites Against BrazilEx-Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari will return to Stamford Bridge to face in form Russian side lead by former England manager, Fabio Capello. Russia and Brazil have locked horns no less than 10 times and the Europeans have never beaten the South Americans still, Russians are favorites against Brazil tonight.
Brazil have defeated Russia eight times, 5 in friendlies and 3 times in FIFA World Cups but their current form has been quite mediocre. Selecao have won only once in their last five outings, way back in October 2012 when they defeated Japan 4-0.
Since Menez’s departure, Luiz Felipe Scolari has managed Brazil in two friendlies and still waits for his first win of the second tenure as his country’s manager. His side lost to England 2-1 last month and let slip 2 goals advantage against Italy few days back to only earn a draw.
On the other hand, Russians have been quite fantastic under the new manager. Since getting eliminated in Euro 2012, they have not lost a single match. In fact, Capello has managed 7 games and emerged victorious in 5 of them.
Currently Russia sit on top of their World Cup qualifying group with 4 wins in 4 games. Adding to that, like all Italian managers, Capello has been able to turn Russia into a rock solid defensive side as they have not yet conceded a single goal in the WC Qualification group.
Brazilians may have brilliant individual talent but for now their team chemistry has been average. On the other hand, the only negative point for Russia’s preparation might be the cancellation of game against Ireland as they last played on February 6 versus Iceland where they won 2-0.
Will Scolari finally win his first game since re-signing with Selecao in Noevember? Or Will Fabio Capello continue his unbeaten run with the Russian side? We shall have the answer tonight.
