Tevez on Target as Aston Villa Remain in Relegation Zone

Tevez on Target as Aston Villa Remain in Relegation ZoneManchester City fought out an unconvincing victory against Aston Villa to keep slim title dream intact. Carlos Tevez was on target for the citizens as once again Villa’s poor defense cost them last night.
The defeat means that Aston Villa remain in the relegation zone with 24 points and are behind 17th place Wigan only on goal difference. On the other hand, Manchester City ensured that they do not further slip up in chasing Manchester United and they are 12 points behind the Red Devils in second place.
Star striker Sergio Aguero was not fit for the game, thus manager Robert Mancini selected Tevez in the starting lineup and he did not disappoint as the Argentine was by far the best player on the field last night.
Villa conceded their 54th premier league goal of the season as luckless Clark slipped in the midfield and City capitalized to take the lead. Now, Lambert’s men have won only once in the last eleven league fixtures. If such disastrous form continues then without a doubt, Villa will be relegated from the premier league.
Not to forget Aston Villa is one of the seven teams that have not yet been relegated from the top flight since the inception of premier league but the chances of survival this season are very low.
Considering the remaining fixtures, Aston Villa have relatively easy games as compared to other relegation threatened teams. With only 10 games remaining in the league campaign, Villa must find form to win points to survive.
As far as the Champions Manchester City are concerned, they probably have to win each and every game to stand a chance of retaining the title. However the odds are against them as Manchester United are in fantastic form and for now it does not seem that they will drop 12 points to lose the title. Last year’s defeat is a major lesson for them.
In any case, as Yaya Toure claims, the sky blues have to keep on fighting till the end and perhaps hope against hope that United will drop points cheaply in the later stages of the campaign like last season. We surely have an intriguing relegation and title battle to witness in the coming months.
