Manchester United Angle – UEFA Add Insult to Injury

Manchester United Angle - UEFA Add Insult to Injury Having lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League, Manchester United fans were furious as according to them controversy eliminated Red Devils from the competition. However, UEFA has acted to add insult to injury by backing the Turkish referee and punishing Manchester United duo.
Luis Nani and Alex Ferguson have been fined for their respective actions in the second leg of the Champions league first knockout round. Much has been discussed on this issue over the past few weeks.
Whether or not Nani’s tackle was intentional, it really doesn’t matter now because UEFA found it dangerous enough to ban him for a game as a natural punishment for the red card inevitably agreeing with the referee’s decision to send him off for the challenge on Arbeloa.
The statement says:

“Manchester United FC midfield player Nani has been suspended for one match by Uefa’s Control and Disciplinary Body, following the red card he received at the Uefa Champions League round of 16 second leg against Real Madrid CF at Old Trafford on 5 March.”

On the other hand, Alex Ferguson went completely mad on the field when Nani was sent off. Going down to 10 men inevitably gave Madrid the advantage to oust Manchester United much to the frustration of their boss who decided not to appear in front of the media after the game.

“Manchester United head coach Sir Alex Ferguson has been fined €10,000 for non-fulfillment of the post-match media obligations at the same match.”

The Red Devils treble dream ended with that defeat but they are still very much alive and favorites in the domestic tournaments. The league is theirs to lose as they lead by 15 points with only nine games remaining and only a disastrous end to the season can hand City the title for second year running which seems highly unlikely.
Adding to that, United have to face an FA Cup quarter final replay against Chelsea on 1st April as well. Ferguson will surely be less concerned  about the fine and more about the remaining games left in the season.
